Gregg Schellack, DO

Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Schellack and his wife Michelle moved to Juneau in the summer of 2019 and are excited and proud to call Juneau their new home! Dr. Schellack brings a plethora of world experiences and diverse training that he hopes will serve him and his patient’s extremely well.

Growing up on a small family ranch in Montana, Dr. Schellack attended undergraduate school at Montana State University where he studied political science with a pre-law emphasis and biochemistry. Des Moines University was his medical school of choice and he subsequently completed a 1 year surgical internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego. After his internship was complete, he served an overseas tour with the United States Navy for 2 years before returning to complete his orthopedic surgical residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California.

Dr. Schellack then served 3 years at Naval Air Station Lemoore where he was the sole orthopedic surgeon responsible for over 35,000 active duty service members and their families. It was during this tour he was also hand selected as the Director of Surgical Services and earned the meritorious service medal for his efforts. While fulfilling his active duty Naval service commitments, he also spent time working at the local Hanford Adventist Hospital as well as providing weekend coverage for Central Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, California. The Naval hospital experience allowed him to complete multitudes of sports medicine surgeries (extensive shoulder and knee arthroscopies, rotator cuffs and ACL reconstructions), hand surgeries, foot and ankle surgeries and light trauma. At the other 2 civilian hospitals he continued to perform surgery in hip and knee replacement, higher levels of trauma, and pediatric orthopedic surgical care. He holds these experiences invaluable to his current level of orthopedic expertise.

The next step in his career took him to another overseas tour with United States Navy for 2 years. He then returned to the United States for 1 more active duty year in Jacksonville Florida. He has now completed over 21 years of credited Naval service combining 13 years of active duty service with his continuing service in the active reserve component of the United States Navy.

Dr. Schellack and his wife Michelle can often be found walking on one of the many trails here in the Juneau area with their big brown newfoundland dog named Teddy. (yes, he looks like a fluffy bear) They enjoy whale watching, fishing of all types and opportunities, eagle watching, skiing, and many of the other opportunities that Southeast Alaska has to offer. But his favorite pastime is motorcycles, especially racing Motocross! See you on the trails!
