COL David A. Brown M.D. U.S. Army (Retired) Dr. Brown has extensive experience in orthopedics, with a special interest in adult reconstruction, sports medicine and complex trauma. His unique background as a military orthopedic surgeon, as well as his current work in Bend, Oregon, has given him broad experience and proficiency with complex injuries. After being on active duty as an U.S. Army infantry officer and spending time with military athletes, Dr. Brown became interested in orthopedics. He completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University and then returned to active duty as an Army physician. Dr. Brown spent 11 years at Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio, the military’s only Level I Trauma and Burn Center. He also served in Afghanistan and was the Commander of a Forward Surgical Team, leading a 20-man surgical team as they provided care for a wide array of complex trauma patients under battlefield conditions. Dr. Brown was promoted to the rank of Colonel and served as the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery Services at Brooke Army Medical Center. After leaving the Army in 2011, he has worked in Southeast Alaska providing orthopedic services for trauma, total joint, hand, sport, and pediatric patients. He joins the Juneau Bone and Joint Center Orthopedic and Physical Medicine team to provide comprehensive treatment solutions.
